About

Our Story:

Mentorship is a practice dating back to 800 BCE (about 3000 years ago). It involves motivation, guidance, and practices that will improve social, academic, and career skills. Here at S.T.A.R.S. Youth Mentoring mentees ages 9-17 years old are given tools that will help them tackle at-risk situations, form their identity, cope with emotional stress, and become better scholars. Mentees will get to hear real stories about overcoming issues surrounding behavior, academics, and adverse childhood experiences.

Meet Your Mentor:

Hello everyone! My name is Amy and I have been a mentor since 2016. In high school, I excelled academically but struggled with conduct issues due to unresolved trauma. As a result, I became involved with the wrong crowds and was temporarily kicked out of school multiple times. Today, I hold a B.A. in Psychology and am currently pursuing an MSc in school counseling. Becoming a S.T.A.R.S. mentor allows me to provide a safe space where all youth can acknowledge, process, and overcome at-risk situations.
